JT Monster Balls Review

This month I am reviewing JT’s Monster Balls brand paintballs.  A lot of people say bad things about this product, so I thought I would try a couple cases and see for myself.  When I initially opened the cases I thought there were several broken balls based on the amount of liquid in the bags.  I broke out my trusty beach towel and went through the bags one at a time, rolling them around on the towel to dry them off and check for broken balls.  I found none in 2 cases.  That same day I went with a friend to the local field to try them out.  Right out of the bag we noticed that the balls had lots of dimples and had a tendency to bounce on anything other than a solid, direct hit.  Once I got home I took everything that was left and tried an experiment.  I repacked all of the balls in ziplock bags, taking care not to overfill them.  I then spread them out on a shelf in the house and let them wait until the following weekend.  I took a look at them and having them at room temperature and in a loosely packed bag seemed to help remove most of the dimpling and having allowed them to dry out a bit seemed to make the balls more brittle.  In other words the second time was the charm.  I know a lot of people have no love for these, but the way I look at it, you get what you pay for.  That said, for rec play they are cheap and the fact that they don’t break too easily means that they aren’t as likely to break in your barrel.  Come to think of it, wouldn’t using balls that require you to get a solid hit force you to adapt and become a better player?  Give it a shot!
