Let me start this review by giving some advice I wish I had followed: READ THE DIRECTIONS. When I first read about the V-Balls system I immediately envisioned the fun I would have target shooting my marker in the basement during the cold winter months. When the package arrived, I quickly hung the target up on the basement wall, went to the other side of the room, and quickly fired about five shots. Unfortunately, the couple that missed the target came back at me just as fast as they had left, but, luckily I was wearing my mask. I played with it for a little while, and when I ran out of air, I inspected the target and it had circular cracks where the balls had hit the edge area, and the colored sections were separating. In short I had killed the target. I went upstairs afterwards and took out the papers that came with the set and the first two things I see are: Never fire V-Balls over 220 feet per second. & A soft backdrop will extend the life of the V-Balls. Until I read that I was ready to give the target set a bad review, but now I realize that the real problem was me. I have used it a couple times since then and dialing the velocity down has kept the target from taking any further damage, I also mounted the target to a foam sheet which softens the impact on the target as well. I have also found that the V-Balls work really well in my slingshot (which is really fun to shoot inside also). I think that despite my bad initial experience that the V-Balls set is a lot of fun and with the right setup could realistically be used indoors.
My suggestions:
- Use all of your standard safety gear, goggles especially.
- Hang the target on a soft background, insulation foam works well.
- Make sure you have ample distance from the target.
- If possible hang a curtain (bedsheet etc.) behind the target to slow down ricochets.
- Do all of this in an unfinished basement, these things will tear up drywall.
I also think that using a pistol type marker will make it a bit more friendly to use indoors, since they are so much smaller and using 12 gram cylinders is easier than refilling a bottle in this instance. As a side note, you can download a variety of different paper targets from www.vballs.com. I plan on updating in the future as I make changes to my range, so check back to see how that goes. Thanks for reading.
